Dr. Gottschalk is Professor and Section Chief, General Neurology at Yale University. As Director of the Headache & Facial Pain program he supervises training of fellows, residents, and medical students and an active clinical trial portfolio. From 2019-2024 he was President of the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy (AHDA), the organization advocating to Congress for policies improving access to care and increasing funding for headache research.
Dr. Gottschalk began his training with Drs. Solomon, Lipton, and Newman at the Montefiore Headache Unit in 1994. He is a board member of the Headache Cooperative of New England (HCNE) and active in many AHS committees including the UCNS HM exam laison committee, Membership, and Curriculum Development. He is UCNS board-certified (Headache Medicine) and Fellow, AHS, 2012.
Primary research interest: education—from neurology trainees and Primary Care physicians to the general public—promoting modern concepts of Headache Medicine and dispelling fictions that derail optimal care.
